Last week, !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! made a post remarking on the lack of asymmetrical cars sold in the past few years. While we had a bit of a discussion of asymmetrical cars there, I’d love to see it continued so, without further ado, let’s get this party started! I submit the Renault 4 and any Volvo. What have you up your sleeves?
The little 4 had the rear wheels misaligned to fit two torsion bars. 38 mm ain’t a lot, but it still counts.
Just look at that grille. I say it counts.
So what do you think Oppo?
What are the best/worst/most distinctive asymmetric cars in the automotive world?

The 3-door cars, like the Saturn 3-door coupe and the Veloster.

JK. The Citroen DS, Heinkel Kabine, and Messerschitt all had a wider track in the front than in the rear.

I posted this in response to a Hammerhead Fistpunch request to post weird Toyotas, but in Japan only there is something called a Porte or Spade (same chassis different styling) that has a sliding door on the left and two conventional doors on the right.
It's actually in gen 2 with the original debuting way back in 2004. I guess the asymmetry goes over better there.

The world needs more symmetrical cars. Every one that I’ve ever seen in person has the steering wheel way over on one side. Put the steering wheels in the middle I say!

Plymouth XNR:
Lotus Eleven:
Lotus 3-Eleven (Yes, the single seat and small windscreen on the driver’s side count):
Any recent Land Rover Discovery/LR3/LR4:
Chevrolet Corvette SR-2:
Chevrolet Sprint Turbo (just as asymmetrical as a Volvo):
AMC Pacer (remember it’s doors?):
Honda City Turbo and Turbo II (spunky, asymmetrical grilled kei cars FTW):
Oh, and Toyota’s Porte and Spade:

I love this thing! I hope you don’t mind me stealing your topic, but I thought it was a great discussion that needed more attention! Anyways, here’s a Porte to keep things right with the world. Good for ADA compliance as you can see.

There was a period from 1980 until the early 1990's that several iconic turbo coupes had asymmetric hood scoops or bulges from the factory:
The FC RX-7 is perhaps the sneakiest, because it’s scoop is close to center, but not quite. Also, let’s not forget the AW11 MR2 with an intake on one side only.

YES! I love these so much! I remember I was mind-blown to find out the AW11 had only one engine scoop, and I love how no one seemed to give a second thought to having things off center. Never mind rearranging things or raising the hood, just put a scoop or bulge there, that’ll do.

Renault Le car. Beside the differing wheelbases of each side, the off center badge and cowl venting add some interesting details.

Renault 16 obviously, for the same reason as the R4 but more so - the difference in wheelbase was 70mm in this case.
And the forgotten 14, with a 32mm discrepancy:

We need more asymmetrical cars I say!
The only two that come to mind are the
1980's fiat Pandas with their offset grilles, and the
Jaguar F-Type Project 7

My favourite use of asymmetrical design is on the E24 and E28.
The rear exhaust is ever so slightly off-centred, looks subtle, but it adds a certain something to the car which really transforms the look.

Those Toyotas are everywhere on Goonet. Interesting design - one side has a sliding door and one has a normal door.

They’re also two of a select few Toyota models in Japan sold at more than one of their dealership networks (along with the Prius family, which, along with the not Prius badged Aqua, is sold at all four networks), with the Porte sold at Toyota and Toyopet dealers, while the Spade is offered at Corolla and NETZ ones.

Yep, Japanese companies have a habit of this.
Same goes with the now-disbanded Nissan Red Stage and Nissan Blue Stage etc.
These dealerships are also the reason they had the Honda Inspire and Honda Vigor as separate models. They spawned many sister models.

It’s rear end look inspired by the original Honda Z.
The asymmetrical grille they’ve been doing for a while.
